Botswana Agate comes from Africa. It is found in a wide region and is collected after the wet season. It is harder to get large pieces now and most of what you can find comes in broken nodules. It is a fortification Agate and shows it's great banding well. A very hard Agate it takes a mirror polish with colors predominantly Grays, Plum, White, Red and Clear.

Botswana Agate 1764 : A very unusal soft patterned Botswana. Fractures are nuturally healed. #gallery Botswana_Agate_1764

Botswana Agate 1763 : Botswana = strong patterns and glass finish. Just love cutting this material. I just wish Botswana would let more out of the country.

Botswana Agate 1760 : Botswanas patterns are lovely. Even this small chip polished up nice and could be used as an accent stone. #gallery Botswana_Agate_1762

Botswana Agate 1761 : I just love Botswanas when they have the plum or reds inside. Strong pattern and would make a nice earring to go with 1760. #gallery Botswana_Agate_1761

Botswana agate 566 : You can see from the cut how I used the pattern of this stone in the shaping of it. An excellent dark Botswana Agate. There is a micro hairline fracture towards the tip on this stone. #gallery Botswana_agate_566

Botswana agate 565 : This cab has a fantastic shadow play. Shadow is when the bands are separated by an extremely thin translucent layer and as light passes over the stone the shadows drop between those layers giving it a holographic appearance. #gallery Botswana_agate_565
